The essence of strong management

Ben Leichtling on being decisive.
Don't create management vacuums. Some people are self-regulating, but most require strong management. Accountability requires immediate and ongoing feedback coupled to meaningful rewards and consequences.
Good management is not shown by cleaning up messes created by your direct reports. Good managers prevent messes from forming.

Results count. People get no credit for going through the motions and using only ineffective processes such as suggestions, talks or empty threats. They get credit for succeeding.
